Sulimos Design
Sue of Sulimos Design creates hand-fashioned artisan jewelry, mixing traditional metalsmithing with new materials such as precious metal clay and epoxy resins. Other work includes colorful Dichroic glass in many shapes and sizes. Sue also teaches Precious Metal Clay classes in New Haven, CT.
What is PMC?
Precious metal clay, also known as PMC or Art Clay Silver, is a new material that allows the freedom and immediacy of working with a natural-feeling clay. The clay is comprised of fine silver particles recycled from film processing, an organic binder and water. When the clay is fired, usually to around 1290 degrees F, the binder and water burn away to leave .999 Fine Silver.
People who have reactions to Sterling Silver can often wear jewelry made with Fine Silver, because it does not contain any other alloys.
Sue in her own words:
I've been an artist all my life, and a printmaker for more than 15 years, primarily focusing on intaglio etching. My background making prints with two-dimensional metal plates in printmaking was a great preparation to working with jewelry: I still get to work with the complexities of metal, but now I am working in a fully dimensional medium that allows for far more immediacy of expression!
I have received Levels 1, 2 and 3 of the PMC Artisan Certification from PMC Connection, have taken metalsmithing classes at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven CT, and have studied Dichroic Glass Fusing in New York City.
Feel free to contact me if you have ideas for a personalized piece. I am happy to do custom work, including special messages for loved ones incorporated into the piece. It makes for a one-of-a-kind gift to give or receive.
